Newport Harbor Pizza Paddle - August 2016

About once a month a group of us get together and paddle Newport Harbor after work. We launch from the beach at the Newport Aquatic Center and paddle over to Pizza Nova in the main harbor in a combination of kayaks and SUPs. There we dock our boats, partake in feast of pizza and beer, and then paddling back to the cars. We do this all year round and in pretty much all conditions. Light, dark, rain, and the dead of SoCal winter where you're tempted to put a sweater on with your flip flops.

You can find writeups of other pizza paddles here.  For notifications on when we're doing the next one see our facebook group Pizza Paddle Associates.

I had a waterproof camera again this time though I'm struggling transitioning from my trusty old Tx30 to an Olympus TG4.

We had a smaller crowd again due to the lack of rentals and a few of our regulars being tied up elsewhere.

Wendy brought her oldest daughter Sierra again and they along cruised in style.

Matt Kipper was the only SUP this time after a few last minute cancellations.

We had two people with foldable kayaks.  I always drool over the Oru and would honestly rather have one of those than the Element inflatables we own except for the cost.  They seem to set up fairly easily and paddle relatively well.

We even had two folks joining us for the first time this outing.  Rich and Greg took WTC this year with Modjeska group.

Beer!

Our normal stealthing under the dock route had to be cut short due to the high tide.  After about a third of the way even I couldn't make it under.
